[IOS] "Finally, Apple..." Added feature to change the default notification sound in iOS 17.2 Beta 4
|
Until now, even if you didn't like the default notification sound on the iPhone, there was nothing you could do about it. This is because Apple did not provide a way to change the default notification sound. As a result, the iPhone's 'Tri-tone' sound became synonymous with smartphone alarms. |
Of course, Apple allowed users to change certain notification sounds, including ringtones, message and voicemail alerts, calendar alerts, and reminders, but other alert sounds had to follow the iPhone's default settings. Before iOS 17, the default sound was the Tri-tone, but with the release of iOS 17, Apple updated several sounds and changed the default notification to Rebound. Although it is softer than the Tri-tone, some users complained that it became too quiet and wanted to revert to the previous sound. In iOS 17.2, Apple has further improved the notification sound settings. Not only can you restore the default notification sound to the Tri-tone, but you can also change the default notification sound and haptic feedback to your liking. |
[WIFI] "Wi-Fi = Free"... Disappearing paid Wi-Fi plans |
SKT 'T Wi-Fi Zone' plan ends next month The SK Telecom 'T Wi-Fi Zone' plan, which allows the use of paid Wi-Fi, will disappear in January next year. This is due to the change in the communication usage environment, establishing the equation of 'Wi-Fi = free' in all places such as public spaces and various stores. On the 5th, SKT announced, "The paid products for T Wi-Fi Zone, including the monthly subscription and one-time usage pass, will end on January 31, 2024," and "new subscriptions will be suspended from December 31, 2023." SKT mobile phone and tablet PC subscribers will continue to use the T Wi-Fi Zone service for free. |
| SKT launched a paid Wi-Fi plan in 2012. Initially, the service was provided free of charge to all telecom subscribers, but as the number of users increased, traffic surged. To manage service quality, SKT offered free Wi-Fi to its customers and introduced a separate paid plan. Smartphone and tablet PC users subscribed to SKT's basic plan could use Wi-Fi for free, but other devices with Wi-Fi capabilities had to purchase a T Wi-Fi Zone monthly subscription (5,000 KRW per month) or a one-time usage pass (1,000 KRW for 3 hours, 2,000 KRW for 24 hours). However, the situation has changed with the evolving mobile usage environment. As the penetration of smartphones increased, cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, and other places began to offer free Wi-Fi to visitors as a basic service. The government also deployed free public Wi-Fi networks nationwide. By this year, public Wi-Fi has been established in 58,000 public places nationwide. Last year, the cumulative number of connections to public Wi-Fi reached 9.2 billion. The traffic generated by these connections amounted to 66 PB (petabytes), equivalent to watching 57.96 million HD-quality videos. |
[AI] MS equips OpenAI's 'GPT-4 Turbo' in Copilot... A check on Google
|
Equipped with DALL-E 3 and code interpreter Supports Bing deep search functionality |
| Microsoft (MS) announced on the 5th (local time) that it will equip OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo in its comprehensive AI solution, Copilot. The new Copilot will feature not only the GPT-4 Turbo model but also the image generator DALL-E 3 and the deep search functionality for the Bing search engine. MS revealed this through its blog on the same day. The core is the GPT-4 Turbo model. This version can accept up to 128,000 tokens, which means Copilot can better understand questions and provide better responses. Yusuf Mehdi, MS Senior Vice President and Chief Consumer Marketing Officer, explained, "We are currently testing with some users," and "Copilot will be broadly integrated within the next few weeks." There are six major updates. |
[IT] Windows 10 security updates extended for 3 years |
MS, Windows 10 technical support ends in 2025 → Paid ESU program to operate (ZDNet Korea = Reporter Kim Woo-yong) Microsoft will operate a paid technical support program for three years after the end of Windows 10 technical support on October 14, 2025. According to Ars Technica on the 5th (local time), Microsoft announced that it will operate an Extended Security Updates (ESU) program that will provide security updates for Windows 10 for an additional three years. The ESU program for Windows 10 is similar to what was done for Windows 7. After the official end of technical support, users can pay a certain fee to receive security and bug patches for three years. |
Specific service costs have not been announced. However, the cost will be calculated per user device. Contracts must be signed on an annual basis. The ESU program will be offered to businesses and institutions, but it has not been confirmed whether it will be available for individual use. Microsoft recommends updating PCs or replacing them with new hardware to switch to Windows 11 rather than maintaining Windows 10. Alternatively, they suggest using Windows 365 Cloud PC. |
[Issue] "AI reduces wages instead of jobs" says European Central Bank report
|
The likelihood of artificial intelligence taking away jobs is small, but the wave of automation is expected to impact wages. According to an analysis conducted by the research team of the European Central Bank (ECB) based on data collected over nine years from 16 European countries, it is expected that highly skilled jobs in fields where AI has been introduced will increase by 2.6 to 4.3%. According to the " New technologies and jobs in Europe" report, there is a positive correlation between AI-based automation and the creation of new jobs. |
Low-skilled jobs are also relatively stable. It is expected that AI will not significantly affect the jobs of low- and mid-skilled worker groups with "average education levels." The research team also expressed surprise that this analysis result contradicts the conclusions drawn from the history of automation. As manual labor was replaced by technology and automation spread, basic competency jobs always decreased.
However, AI is expected to impact wages. The research team concluded that AI would have a "neutral or slightly negative impact" on wages based on the collected data, although they could not identify clear signs. However, they did not specify the process by which they reached this conclusion. Skilled workers and young professionals benefit from the increased use of AI. However, the research team repeatedly pointed out that the results of this study should be viewed with caution and that the study may not have recognized the potential risks that AI could pose to the future job market. Rapidly developing AI technology is still close to an unknown territory. The ECB research team stated, "The impact on employment and wages, and thus on growth and equality, has not yet emerged." The study's findings on the European Union labor market differ from those of other countries, particularly the United States. The research team clarified that the findings of this study do not align with those of American researchers. Research on the impact of AI on American jobs indicates that up to 2.4 million jobs could disappear by 2030, particularly due to generative AI. Major IT companies, including IBM, also stated that they might lay off thousands of employees because of AI and that many jobs could be replaced by software in the future. |
[Attention!] Use free 5G Wi-Fi that is 4 times faster on city buses nationwide |
Completed transition from LTE to 5G, speed improved by 4 times 85% of the 2nd and 3rd phase contracts awarded to SKT Application of new technologies and operational efficiency enhancements |
[Financial News] The project to transition the public Wi-Fi on 29,100 city buses nationwide from Long Term Evolution (LTE) to 5th Generation (5G) mobile communication has been completed, enabling the use of 5G Wi-Fi that is four times faster than before. In particular, SK Telecom played a role in alleviating the burden of household communication costs by being responsible for about 85% of the 5G transition project. According to the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) on the 5th, the project to transition the public Wi-Fi on city buses nationwide to 5G has been promoted since May 2019, improving the public Wi-Fi speed on buses to 300-400Mbps, more than four times faster than before. As a result, various internet services can be used even on moving buses. SKT was particularly responsible for about 85% of the 5G transition by winning the 2nd and 3rd phase contracts. Since 2012, the government has designated public places and institutions, and city buses, where private participation is insufficient or public interest needs to be ensured, as locations for public Wi-Fi projects. So far, public Wi-Fi has been established in more than 58,000 places nationwide, with approximately 9.2 billion cumulative connections as of 2022. The government and telecommunications companies expect that this public Wi-Fi policy will contribute to improving public convenience and reducing household communication costs and plan to cooperate to advance public Wi-Fi projects in the future. |
